For those able to view ITV The Matrix was given an airing yesterday evening and the two sequels follow on this evening and tomorrow evening.
I was curious to read the Newspapers and Internet reviews of the films and how there is much reference to the philosophical and the spiritual but no reference (in main stream) to the Biblical and Gospel within the films. The Sunday times even referred to it as having a lot of philosophical mumbo-jumbo which distracted from what was otherwise a good action movie (or words to that effect), mmmm, missing the point?
Films and mainstream TV have always been a source of inspiration...
for work with youth and young adults, for me, as it is a great "way in" and also a culturally engaging way of communicating.
A subject matter at the heart of postings by Steve Taylor on missional church, see here, who is, in his own words:
"...beginning a series of posts called emerging AD:missions; reflecting on the emerging church in light of mission thinking. I will be using the book, Readings in World Mission, by Norman Thomas (sadly out of print). It is a companion to David Bosch's Transforming Mission.
"Transforming Mission" had a profound effect on many of us in college and this series gives a day-to-day perspective on Bosch's subject matter and is probably worth following.
